Julie Wolfe - Apophenia Vol. 02: Exquisite Corpse

HEMPHILL is pleased to share Julie Wolfe's most recent release, Apophenia Vol. 02: Exquisite Corpse, the latest installment in Wolfe’s ongoing exploration of perception, fragmentation, and visual meaning.

This volume marks a significant milestone in the Apophenia series—an ambitious, multilayered investigation into how we navigate and make sense of imagery in a world inundated with visual information. Drawing from an archive of discarded books, scientific diagrams, classical art, and commercial design, Wolfe constructs complex, collaged compositions that challenge aesthetic hierarchies and unravel conventional narratives of order and beauty.

Through saturated color, distortion, and the disruption of form, Wolfe invites viewers into a realm of ambiguity—where familiar symbols are fractured and recontextualized, and where each fragment resists easy interpretation. Rather than providing resolution, Exquisite Corpse stages a visual and conceptual dialogue that interrogates what we see, how we see, and why.

Over two years in the making, Exquisite Corpse represents the next chapter in the Apophenia journey—a project that continues to expand the boundaries of visual language and the possibilities of the artist’s book as a site of inquiry and reinvention.

Stay tuned for a book signing event at HEMPHILL this Fall.
